Is it possible to incorporate mathematical functions into fields? It would be helpful if Jotform could automatically calculate VAT and then display a total comprising the amount and VAT.

    Hi auftritt,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I'm an AI assistant here to assist you.

Yes, it is possible to incorporate mathematical functions into fields in Jotform to automatically calculate VAT and display a total amount including VAT. You can use Jotform's Form Calculation widget to run real-time calculations using values from your form fields. This widget allows you to add fields, numbers, operators, and functions to build formulas such as calculating VAT and summing it with the base amount.

    Here’s how to do it:

    1. In Form Builder, click on Add Element on the left side of the page.
    2. Under the Widgets tab, select the Form Calculation widget and add it to your form.
    3. Open the widget settings, and use the formula editor to add your amount field and multiply it by the VAT rate (e.g., 7% as 0.07) to calculate VAT.
    4. Add the amount field and the VAT calculation together in the formula to get the total including VAT.
    5. Save the widget, and the form will automatically calculate and display the VAT and total amount based on user input.

You can also configure options like decimal places, read-only result fields, and more for better formatting and user experience.

Additionally, if you want to pass this calculated total to a payment field, Jotform supports that by setting the payment field to User Defined Amount and linking it to the calculation widget.

Here is an example image of the Form Calculation widget setup for your reference:

    Hi auftritt,

Thank you for clarifying that you are referring to Jotform Sign specifically. I understand you want to know if mathematical functions like VAT calculation can be incorporated into fields within Jotform Sign.

Currently, Jotform Sign focuses primarily on document signing and does not support the same form calculation features available in the regular Jotform Form Builder. This means automatic VAT calculations and dynamic mathematical functions in fields are not supported in Jotform Sign at this time.

If you need this functionality, you might consider creating the form with calculations in Jotform Form Builder first, then integrating or linking it with Jotform Sign for signing purposes.

Let us know if you want guidance on how to set this up or if you have any other questions.

Reach out again if you need any other help.

    Hi auftritt,

If I understood it correctly, you want to be able to calculate number fields on a Sign Document? If so, currently, it's not an available feature to do calculation on Jotform Sign. You can achieve this instead with a regular form builder. To do that, you can convert your PDF Sign Document to a regular form using the Smart PDF. Creating a form by uploading a PDF is easy. Let me show you how to do it:

    1. On your Workspace page, click on Create on the top-left side of the page.
    2. Select Form from the assets, and then click on Smart PDF Form.
    3. In Smart PDF Forms, click on Upload Document, and then select the PDF you want to convert to a form, or just drag and drop the PDF into the white upload area.

Yes, this is definitely possible and actually quite straightforward once you use the calculation widget properly. You just need to multiply your base amount by the VAT rate (for example, 0.20 for 20%), and then add that result back to the original amount to display the final total.

The key thing is making sure all your fields are set as numeric values, otherwise the calculation won’t work correctly. Also, using the Form Calculation widget helps keep everything dynamic so the total updates automatically when the user changes the amount.

    Hi auftritt,

I understand your concern. But as my colleague Myla said, it's not possible to calculate values in the Sign Document, because the Sign Document doesn't support conditional logic or Form Calculation widget currently. So, it's not possible to create a calculation there.

Also, the thread link you've shared shows a regular form with a calculation field. But you can create a Smart PDF form or a Regular form to calculate values, as my colleague explained in this thread. You can check out this guide How to Calculate a Total with Jotform and How to Use and Get the Most Out of Jotform Smart PDF Forms for more information.

While that feature isn’t available in Jotform right now, I’ve sent your request to our Developers for review. When or if it gets developed will depend on their current workload, how possible it is, and how much demand there is from other users. If/when we have any updates, we’ll follow up here and keep you posted.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
