How to clear or reset a widget field upon submission

Asked on November 22, 2025 at 9:22 PM
I am experiencing issues with clearing or resetting a widget field after it pulls data from a worksheet upon submission. Specifically, I want the widget to clear the field after it autofills from the worksheet.
Additionally, if I update the worksheet, such as changing pricing, the updated data is not pulling through when someone edits the submission. I have tried using conditions to reset or refresh fields manually when editing, but I noticed there is no "Clear a Field" option under conditions. I am unsure if I am missing something or if there is another way to achieve this. I need examples or guidance on how to use conditions or other form elements to manually refresh or reset fields when editing submissions.

    Hi SubZeroSW,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Can you send us the link to your form so we can take a look for you? Also, can you share a quick screen recording of what’s happening so we can try to replicate it on our end? You can upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox, or record with Loom and send us the link.

And it seems like you're referring to the Spreadsheet to form widget, so for us to test properly if you can include sending us the link of a copy of the Spreadsheet you're using on as well. I’ve gone ahead and moved your other question to a separate thread to keep things tidy, and someone from our Support Team will help you out with it here.

Once you get back to us, we can take the next step toward solving this.

It is to work with each of the model numbers and pull pricing information based on Tiered pricing structure.

    Hi SubZeroSW,

Thank you for sharing the video and your form link.

Our team cloned your form and tested the Spreadsheet to Form widget and your conditions on our end following the same steps shown in your recording, but so far our team haven’t been able to replicate the issue - the fields are behaving as expected here. Because of that, We'd like to run a few more checks and review the conditions and widget settings in more detail to see what might be causing the behavior on your side.

We are still investigating this and will update you on this thread as soon as we have more concrete findings or a possible workaround.

This reply is confirmed by Raymond M.

    Hi SubZeroSW,

    Thanks for your patience.

We tested this on our end by cloning your form and also by creating a new test form with the same conditions. In both cases, the related fields were filled correctly, and the Spreadsheet to Form widget was triggered as expected during edit submissions.

Since we couldn't reproduce the issue, it's possible that the form was initially submitted in a different way. For example, through URL parameters or another method which may have caused the "Model #1" field to populate without triggering the widget.

To help us narrow this down, could you share how the form was initially submitted when the issue occurred? This will help us identify what might be causing the behavior you experienced.

To clarify, when the forms were originally filled out, the worksheet to form had an old price sheet attached. Same layout, same headings. But it was different pricing before we had a price increase. When they go to edit the submission, we have the Model Number they put in LOCKED. So they cannot change it. But I want to find a way to take and re-copy the Model #1 in the the Model Number Verificatioin #1 to create a pull again from the NEW worksheet that has been uploaded in the widget.

I tried making a condition that if Standard and Option was filled it would trigger the copy. I had the Standard and Option blank out by edit condition, so it would need to be re-established. But that did not work.

The only way I have found it to work is to actually re-type the model number. I can't have that, as once they enter it, that model is locked and we don't want them to change it.

    Hi SubZeroSW,

I tested this on a demo form and confirmed that the Spreadsheet to Form widget works differently in edit mode. Even with conditions in place, it won’t trigger automatically through the edit link because the widget only runs when the field value updates.

The good news is we found a workaround. We can add conditions that force the field to update, and that will make the widget run as expected. Set up the two Update/Calculate field conditions as you see below:

How to clear or reset a widget field upon submission Image 2 Screenshot 71Also, to avoid any conflict with the new logic, you’ll need to disable or remove the following three conditions so everything will work as expected once the new conditions are in place:

How to clear or reset a widget field upon submission Image 4 Screenshot 93

Try that out and get back to us if you have any issues.

Wanted to share the video showing that it is still not working on my end.

I have removed the conditions you told me to and added the conditions for both Model #1 and Model #2 into the system to test. Did I do clear field correctly? You just hit space bar enter and then go back and highlight it as nothing, right?

    Hi SubZeroSW,

I checked your form, and it seems that you haven't updated the second condition. Here is the other condition formulated by my colleague:

Here is the current condition in your form:

    Can you check again?

Keep us posted if you run into anything else.

Still not working on my end. Is there a good way to convert the Edit Submission to NO after a quote has been edited. Therefore the next time they 'edit the quote again', it defaults to NO to reset the fields?

    Hi SubZeroSW,

To help us better troubleshoot the issue, can you share the Excel sheets you used for the spreadsheet to form widget? You may populate the files with dummy data.

Once we hear back from you, we can get moving on a solution.

I have not heard from anyone in over a month.

I think I might have found a way by clearing the data for the standard/option and the data in the widget. Then the condition is, if model number and standard are filled, copy model to model verification.

I have recorded the results. It is working for model 2 and 3, but not model 1? Please see if you can see where I went wrong.

    Hi SubZeroSW,

After investigating, I found that the field labeled with PV #1 doesn't have conditions to pass the value from the Model Number #1 field to the PV #1 field. Check out the screencast below:

How to clear or reset a widget field upon submission Image 1 Screenshot 50

To fix it, we just need to add a set of conditions like you see in the screenshot below:

How to clear or reset a widget field upon submission Image 2 Screenshot 61

    1. While in Conditions under the Settings tab, click on the Add Condition button.

    2. Select Update/Calculate Field.

    3. Set the conditions like you see in the screenshot above, and then click on Save at the bottom.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
