How to find the unique name of each field and how to use it?

    I would like to have the end user select what Tax Year, they would like for us to work on, and continue to reference that year throughout the form. I have seen things like this in other systems as {tax_year}

Would it be possible to do something like this in JotForm and if so, how do I set this up?

    Thanks for all your help,

    Rene

    Hi Rene,

Are you referring to the Unique Name? If yes, we do have something like that, and each form element from your form has its own unique name. It's easy to check the unique name of your form element, let me show you how:

    1. In Form Builder, click on the Gear icon of your element field.
    2. Go to the Advanced tab, and click on Field Details.

Now, you can use that unique name to return the value. For example, you want to use it on a Paragraph field. Here’s how to do it:

    1. In Form Builder, click on the Add Element on the left side of the page.
    2. On the Basic tab, click on the Paragraph element.

    3. Select the Paragraph field and click on the Pencil icon.
    4. You can just type the unique name inside the curly bracket or click on the Form Fields dropdown.

Maybe you can share with us how you plan to use those unique fields, and we may be able to help you. Also, feel free to check our guide on How to Find Field IDs and Unique Names.

Reach out again if there’s anything else we can do for you.

What I am trying to do is first, ask the client/user the following question: "What tax year would you like for us to work on for you?" When they respond "2024" I would like to reference "2024" in several places throughout the form, for example "Please upload your "2024" W2 in the following sections"

Do you understand better now what I am trying to accomplish?

    Hi Rene,

If I understand you correctly, you want to use the Year in several fields. Yes, you can do that, but it depends on which type of fields you're using in your form. Not every element supports Unique Name features. You may need to create conditions for some of the fields and fields like Paragraph, Fill in the blank can support the Unique Name feature. Check out the screencast below to see my results:

Can you send me the link to your form, so I can take a look at it for you? Also, may I know which type of fields you're using or willing to use? If that’s not exactly what you’re looking for, can you explain a bit more, so I can help you better?

Let us know if you have any other questions.
