Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users

    Hi,

I need to create a space on my form which the user cannot edit for price. It will be different for each user. Can I manage the figure in the submissions table so that it appears as a non-editable field in the form?

    thanks

    Hi cubanboxingcoach,

Thank you for reaching out to Jotform Support. If you want to set a fixed price for payment integration, it's easy. Let me show you how to do it:

Adding a form calculation field, setting a default value, and hiding it:

    • Open the Add Form Element menu again, and Under the Widgets tab, add the Form Calculation widget.
    • Click on the Gear icon and under the General tab, scroll down a bit and type a fixed amount to the Default Result area.

Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users Image 1 Screenshot 30

Pass fixed amount to the pricing area:

    • Now, click on the Wand icon next to the product list area.
    • Select the short text field from Get Price From and click on the Save button. That's it, you're done.

Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users Image 2 Screenshot 41

If it isn't what you're looking for, can you explain a little bit more about the issue so we can help you better?

Give it a try and let us know if you need any other help.

Thanks for this. I don't think this will work for my needs. The price details could be different for each applicant. I therefore need to be able to manage the price separately.

I should add that I also have other fields that are not necessarily figures that I need to fill in myself.

    Hi cubanboxingcoach,

Yes, you can follow my colleague's guidelines for getting prices from the form calculation widget. Before providing solution, I want to clarify that you want to add price before sending it to the user? If that’s not exactly what you’re looking for, can you explain a bit more so I can help you better?

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to move forward with a solution.

Hi - apologies as I do not think I have explained it well. This is what I need:

    1) to be able to input information into the form fields that are not editable by the user.

    2) This will include price but I do not want a formula as not all values will be formulaic

3)Non editable fields include, price (or figure), Date, Special Notes etc.

Simply put, is it possible to make fields not editable by the user so that I can fill in the value or text via the submission table so that it appears in their form?

    Hi cubanboxingcoach,

You can set a default value for each field and set it to a read only, so the fields will not be editable. Let me show you how to do this:

    1. In Form Builder, click on the Gear icon of the field that you want to input information.
    2. From the Advances tab, enter the Default Value.
    3. Toggle Read Only to turn it On. Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users Image 1 Screenshot 50

Here's how to do this feature with the Date Picker element:

    1. In Form Builder, click on the Gear icon of the Date Picker element.
    2. From the Options tab, click on Custom from the Default Date.
    3. Enter your preferred date. Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users Image 2 Screenshot 61
    4. Go to the Advanced tab and toggle Read Only. Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users Image 3 Screenshot 72

    Here's the result:

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Thanks. I need it to be different for every user - not sure if this accommodates that? Unless I am mistaken

i.e. I need to enter some of the form details for the user before they fill it out. And that information needs to not editable.

    Hi cubanboxingcoach,

I understand what you’d like to do, but I’ll need a bit of time to work out a solution. I’ll get back to you shortly.

Hi - I have set these fields as READ ONLY in the form. That seems to work as it allows me to fill in the information via the Submissions table so that it populates the form but can't be edited. Please advise if you see any potential issues with this approach?

    Hi cubanboxingcoach,

It looks like you're good to go since you have the fields you want as Read Only.

You also have an action button to send an edit link to the user's email (Request Update button). When the user opens the edit link, the prices are filled and can't be edited.

One downside is that they can't really edit the "Request Update" email, so it will look like this

Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users Image 1 Screenshot 20

If you use the “Send Email” button instead, they can make a custom email, so they can edit what it says. Please see link to see: How to Request Submission Updates in Jotform Tables

But you can use this instead with an edit link added in an Autoresponder that they can send from tables:

Reach out again if you need any more help.

Hi - thanks for this. I am a little confused - can you confirm is 'they' the person filling out the form? Or me, the administrator of the form?

For clarity, I want the user to be able to return to the form and edit any of the editable fields. I (as the administrator) want to be able to edit the read only fields (which I do in Submissions) and I want to be able to send them (user) a link so they can update their (user) form.

    Hi cubanboxingcoach,

You can do all these by sending the form through the Request Update Button in the Jotform Tables. Once you clicked the Send Request Button in the Tables, the respondent will receive an email like the one below:

Enter information in the fields that will not be editable by the users Image 1 Screenshot 30They should click the Edit Form Response button. After clicking, they will be redirected to the form with the information you have filled out from the tables. These fields will not be editable, since you have set them to Read Only. Check out my screencast below for the result:
