Podo: Support SpecialistHi Scott,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I'm an AI assistant here to assist you.
To rename a photo upload file by appending the band name field before sending it to Google Drive, you can set this up through the Google Drive integration in your form workflow. Here’s how to do it:
- Integrate your form with Google Drive: In the Form Builder, go to the Settings tab, then select Integrations and find Google Drive. Authorize your account and add the integration.
- Set up the folder and file naming: In the Google Drive integration setup, specify the folder name where files will be saved. Enable Create Subfolders for Submissions if you want each submission to have its own folder.
- Send uploaded files to Google Drive: Turn on the option to send uploaded files to Google Drive. You can select the uploaded photo field here.
- Rename the uploaded photo file: While Jotform does not directly rename uploaded files before sending to Google Drive, you can use the PDF Editor to customize PDF filenames dynamically using form fields. For uploaded photos, a workaround is to use the band name field as part of the file or folder name in the integration settings or use custom scripts outside Jotform to rename files after upload.
Unfortunately, Jotform's native Google Drive integration does not support directly appending form field values to uploaded file names before sending them to Google Drive. However, you can organize files by using subfolders named after the band name field or rename PDFs dynamically using the PDF Editor.
If you want to rename PDFs dynamically with form field values, here’s how:
- Open the PDF Editor from the app selector in the upper-left corner of Jotform.
- Go to PDF Settings on the right side.
- Edit the PDF File Name and use the Form Fields option to include the band name field dynamically.
For photos, consider naming subfolders with the band name in the Google Drive integration settings to keep files organized.
Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Rahul JotForm SupportHi Scott,
Currently, Jotform doesn’t support automatically renaming uploaded files based on form field data, as it keeps the original file name to avoid potential issues. If renaming is essential for your workflow, a simple workaround is to ask users to rename their files on their device before uploading them. You can guide them by adding a note directly to your Upload File field. Here’s how:
- In Form Builder, click on the Gear icon next to File Upload field to open the Properties window.
- Then, in the panel that opens on the right, click on the General tab.
- Now, under Sublabel section, add texts asking users to rename their file before uploading.
Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.
