Hi,
I would like for the W4 form I have to be set up to be filled out on the actual form its self, how do I do this? I want the employees to be able to see and fill out the actual form. Not the thing on the left that Jot form creates from the w4 form.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks!

Hi hoahhc,
What you're seeing is the standard behavior of Jotform Smart PDF Forms. When you upload a PDF (like the W-4), Jotform automatically creates:
- An online form version (on the left) where users input their data.
- And keeps the original PDF view (on the right), where form responses are mapped directly onto the actual document layout.
- Even though the online form may not look like the original W-4, the data your employees enter will be transferred and aligned onto the correct fields of the official W-4 form exactly as you're expecting.
During the filling-out stage, users will interact with the online form version. This version may not look exactly like the W-4, but each field is connected to the corresponding area on the actual PDF form.
- Once the form is submitted, you can:
- Have the system automatically fill the original W-4 PDF with the user's responses.
- Send that completed W-4 form to the employee via email.
You may check the option of converting the W-4 form into a sign document. It’s easy to create a sign document with Jotform Sign. Let me show you how:
- On your My Sign Documents page, and click on Create Sign Document on the left side of the page.
- Click on Upload Document to upload your own document from your device.
- Drag and drop your document into the Upload box, or click on Upload Document to select it.
- Once you add your document, click on the Create Signable Document button.
- Click the Detect Fields button in the option that appears below the green navigation bar.
- After it matches the suitable elements with the spaces, click on Keep All.
- If you want to delete a field, just click on it and then click the Trash Can icon below it.
- Click on the Dismiss button in the option that appears below the green navigation bar.
- In the Document Elements menu on the left, drag and drop the elements to your document.
By converting the PDF into a sign document, users see and fill out the actual W-4 PDF right on screen. They can type directly onto the PDF and add a signature. This works more like a traditional form-filling and signing process.
If your goal is for employees to fill out the W-4 directly on the actual form layout, then converting it into a sign document might be the better option.
Give it a try and let us know if you need any help.
