How to make a custom widget?

I want to make a custom widget to use in my forms. I see tutorials on how to do so, but I cannot figure out how to add a widget here on the Jotform site. Does that feature require a certain kind of plan? If so what kind? I am not interested in registering the widget on the marketplace for others to use, just for my own form usage.

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I'm an AI assistant. I'll do my best to help you until someone from the support team is available.

To add a custom widget to your form, you do not need a specific plan just for personal use. You can create and add custom widgets directly to your forms without registering them on the marketplace. Let me know if you need guidance on how to add the widget to your form.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Can you show me how and where to add a custom widget? I am interested in the Iframe kind of widget.

    Hi Jason,

If you want to make a custom widget, you can easily do that by coding it in your text editor. Once you're done building your widget, you can go to this link to register your widget. Wait for the approval so you can use it on your form. You can check this link to view the full guide on building custom widgets on Jotform.

Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.

Do I have to register it on the marketplace? I don’t want to build it for public consumption, just for use on my own forms. And I have to wait for someone to approve it? I am trying to explore the idea of making a custom widget, so it’s not ready yet for any official review. I was hoping I could just use it myself in a testing capacity.

    Hi Jason,

If you're simply testing or using a custom widget for your own forms, you can do so without registering it publicly. Registration and approval are only required if you intend to publish the widget on the Jotform marketplace for others to use.

Keep in mind that if you're developing a fully custom widget with your own code, it typically needs to be registered and approved to function within Jotform’s widget system. For private use or experimentation, embedding the widget via an iframe is a practical workaround.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the reply. I don’t really understand though. I do want it to fully function with a form that has “regular” Jotform elements on it, but I don’t want the widget to be registered in the marketplace. I just want to be able to use it with the forms I create. What do I need to do? I don’t see how to make a custom widget that is just for me.

    Hi Jason,

I was informed that if you want to use your custom widget, you’ll need to register it first before adding it to your form. Once registered, it will remain private and visible only to you, appearing in the Add Elements/Widgets tab of your account.

On the other hand, If you choose to submit it for approval, Jotform will review the widget, and upon approval, it will become publicly available for all users.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
