Resubmit submission to trigger integration

    Hello,

I truly feel like I have successfully done this before, but today it isn't working. I need to resubmit a submission on a form to trigger a zapier automation. So I go to submissions, edit the submission and then press submit. And usually it comes up with the thank you for submitting page and then on the table, there is a second row for that submission including the changes. But today when I press submit, it just takes me back to the submissions table and there is no new row and the automation is not triggered. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Russell,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Let me help you with that:

When you edit a submission and resubmit it, it should trigger your Zapier automation and create a new row with the updated submission. If this is not happening, please try the following steps:

    1. In Jotform Tables, hover over the submission and click the Three Dots icon next to it.
    2. Select Edit Entry, make your changes, and then click the Submit button on the form to resubmit.
    3. This resubmission should trigger the automation and create a new row with the updated data.

If you are still not seeing a new row or the automation is not triggered, double-check your Zapier integration settings to ensure it is properly connected and active.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

    Hi Russell,

I understand that you have successfully resubmitted submissions before to trigger your Zapier automation, but today it is not working as expected. When you edit a submission and press submit, it should show the thank you page and create a new row in the table with the updated submission, triggering the automation. Since this is not happening, ensure you are editing the submission correctly. Here's how:

    1. In Jotform Tables, hover over the submission and click the Three Dots icon.

    2. Select Edit Entry, make changes on the submission, and then Submit the form.

If nothing's changed after that, verify that your Zapier integration is properly connected and active. Sometimes, connection issues can prevent the automation from triggering. Then clear your browser's cache, or use another browser. If after these steps the issue persists, it might be related to recent changes in either Jotform or Zapier settings or temporary service interruptions.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

The integration is not the problem, it's the Jotform because the new submission is not popping up on my table. Yes I tried several different edit entry buttons, the one you use in the screenshot above, the one in the top right corner of the window, I resubmitted the edit 8 times, received all 8 of the edited submission emails, but no new submission ever popped up on my submissions table and the integration never triggered. So I'm about 99% sure it's on your end. Thanks for the help.

    Hi ButlerRussell,

Can you try to clear your browser's cache to refresh the page and to speed up the page loading process? If the issue persists, we can look into this for you, but we’ll need access to your account to do that. Don't worry, you can disable that again after we're done checking things out. Let me show you how to do it:

    1. In the upper-right corner of your My Forms page, click on your Avatar/Profile Image icon.

    2. In the small window that opens, click on Settings.

    3. In the panel on the left, click on the Security tab.

    4. Then, on the bottom-right side of the page, toggle Jotform Support Access to the On position.

Cleared the cache and no change. Still receiving edit emails but no new submission on the table and no automation triggered. I enabled the jot form support access in the account so let me know what else you need from me.

    Hi ButlerRussell,

Can you share us the link of the form in question? Also, can you share with us a screen recording of what’s happening so we can try to replicate it on our end? You can share the video recording on any public sharing platform like Google Drive or Dropbox, or you can simply use Loom to record the video and share the video link with us.

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to move forward with a solution.

    Hi ButlerRussell,

Upon checking the video you shared, when you edit a submission, it will not create a new row, but it will simply update the details on the corresponding submission row. If that’s not exactly what you’re looking for, can you explain a bit more so I can help you better?

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to help you with this.

Well then I have no clue how I did it before! haha Sometimes our technicians accidentally put in the wrong invoice number, and then when our automation is triggered, the Google drive folder and deal in Bigin that correspond to the job can't be found. So I need to be able to go in and edit a submission and then re-submit it, so that our zapier automation that is triggered by New Submission will be triggered and the documents will be uploaded to Bigin (with a few steps in between, but that's the ultimate endpoint). I could have sworn in the past when I went and edited the deal and hit the submit button from the form, it created a new submission. I 100000% have succeeded in doing this previously, because I know it doesn't work when I just edit the submission in the table. I had to actually go to the form and edit and press the submit button. But in the past it would take me to the thank you for submitting page after I edited and then it created a new row and retriggered the automation. So, idk if there has been an update or something, or I could 100% be crazy and have done it some other way, but I'm definitely lost! Thanks for your help.

    Hi ButlerRussell,

Note that edited submissions would only update the entries on the Jotform Tables and not create a new row. I would suggest to make a new submission with the correct details to trigger integrations and create new row with the correct information.

Let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.

Well that's weird, because like I said, I have 100% successfully done this in the past.

The problem with making a new submission is the huge time suck. We use this form to track our chemical usage and there's quite a few fields that are filled in. Trying to do this by hand is just begging for errors. Is there a way to clone a submission? Or any way to resubmit? I can't imagine I'm the first person with this issue.

    Hi ButlerRussell,

To clarify, in JotForm, when you edit an existing submission and resubmit it, the system updates that original entry in JotForm Tables rather than adding a new row. This process still triggers your form’s post-submission actions such as email notifications, approval workflows, or third-party integrations like Zapier but it does not create a duplicate or new submission in the table.

At this time, JotForm does not offer a built-in feature to duplicate or resubmit an edited entry as an entirely new submission automatically. If your goal is to create a separate entry using the same data, the most reliable method is to manually re-enter the information into the form and submit it again.

As an alternative to reduce manual work and potential input errors, you can export the existing submission and then re-import it using JotForm’s Import Data feature. This allows you to generate a new submission based on existing data more efficiently, especially when working with large forms or frequent updates.

Reach out again if you have any other questions.
