Per this old thread:
How to set default selection for checkbox?
there does not seem to be a way for a checkbox field to be checked by default when there is only 1 option..

Hi Terrence,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Unlike regular forms, Jotform Sign currently doesn't offer an option to preselect default values in Multiple Choice fields via the Sign Builder interface.
With the thread you mentioned for reference, they are using the regular form to set a default selection in the Multiple Choice field. You can easily do so in just a few easy steps if you're using a regular form. Let me show you how:
- Open your form in Form Builder and click on the Multiple Choice field.
- Click on the Gear icon on the right side of the field to open Properties.
- Then, click on the Advanced tab, under the Selected by Default section, tick on the Option to be selected by default.
Based on your screenshot, you are trying to achieve this on a Jotform Sign document. Unfortunately, unlike regular forms, Jotform Sign currently doesn't offer an option to preselect default values in Multiple Choice fields via the Sign Builder interface.
While the feature you're looking for isn't available at Jotform right now, we've gone ahead and escalated your request to our developers. Exactly when or if it's developed depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users also request it. If there are any updates, we’ll circle back to this thread and let you know.
Thanks for your patience and understanding, we appreciate it.
