Hello,
How can I use a spreadsheet/table to fill a field then auto populate dependent fields. I have used the spreadsheet widget and you have to type exactly what the uniqueid is. I would like the typing to prompt suggestion that can then be selected.

Hi TeamMurph,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Unfortunately, it is not possible to have a search prompt or suggestion wherein you can select values from the Spreadsheet to Form widget to autopopulate other fields in your form. You still need to enter the Unique Code and click on Auto Complete Fields in order to get the results.
A workaround you can try is to add a Dropdown field wherein the selection of the Unique Codes will be in there for form users to choose from. And by conditionally prepopulating the Spreadsheet to Form widget based on the answer from the dropdown using Conditional Logic. When selected, it will autopopulate the other fields based on the data from the connected spreadsheet. Here's how:
Let's assume that you've already added the Spreadsheet to Form widget into the form and the spreadsheet file that'll go with it to autopopulate the fields into your form. The first thing we need to do is to add a Dropdown field into the form that will be used as the selector for the widget's unique code. Let me show you how:
- In Form Builder, click on Add Form Element on the left.
- Under the Basic tab, look for Dropdown and add it into your form.
- Next, click on the field's Gear icon.
- Update the Field Label as needed.
- Go to the Options tab and add the Unique Code from the widget, which will serve as the options.
Next, we'll set the condition to prepopulate the widget based on the dropdown's selected option. Let's start:
- In Form Builder, select Settings from the orange navigation bar.
- Go to Conditions.
- Select Update/Calculate Field from the list.
- Start adding the condition.
Here's a screenshot of the condition: - Don't forget to click on Save once done.
Here's a preview of the form:

Thanks for the info,
I have the dropdown for the "Store Number", there are 108 options. If I did a drop down for the "Name" there would be a list of almost 500 name. Could I use conditional logic pulling from an Excel or CSV and and connect a store number to each persons' name in a group that are in the same store? Then make a drop down only display those who are in the store as a selection option?

Hi TeamMurph,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to set conditions using an Excel or CSV file, as it is an external file not created within the form. Please note that Conditional Logic only works for fields and/or widgets created within the form, or is an available feature in Jotform.
You can try using the Dynamic Dropdown widget for this, which is the upgraded version of the basic Dropdown element. How it works is, there will be nested options within it wherein you can select the first option, and only the connected options will show for its own respective sub-options. This will make it easier and faster to look for selections, as the options will be filtered out based on the nested options. You can even search for the options within the dropdown, to easily locate an item. Let me show you how:
- In Form Builder, click on Add Form Element on the left.
- Go to the Widget tab and search for Dynamic Dropdown to add into your form.
- In the Widget Settings, add the main options for the dropdown.
- To add the sub-options for each main options, put a space before the item.
- Once done, click on Update Widget.
Here's a preview of how it works:
Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.
