How many times have you been ready to buy something online, only to be deterred by the task of manually entering your credit card information?
According to the Baymard Institute, roughly 70 percent of online shopping carts are abandoned. In a study conducted by the Institute, 18 percent of shoppers said they abandoned their carts because the checkout process was too complicated.
One-click payment methods can help to reduce friction in the checkout process, making it more likely that customers will complete payment. According to a study from Cornell University, online retailers that used a one-click payment method increased customer spending by an average of 28.5 percent. The study also found that faster checkout methods increased customer retention rates.
Jotform Enterprise users can now offer more streamlined checkout processes with Fastlane, a one-click payment method from PayPal, Jotform’s most popular payment integration.
Secure, one-click purchases
With Fastlane by PayPal, customers can choose to create a Fastlane profile that stores their credit card and shipping information when they make a purchase on a website. The next time they make a purchase, they’ll just need to enter their email address and verify their identity with a two-factor authentication code sent to their phone. Customers don’t need to remember passwords or sign in to an account to verify their identity.
Fastlane by PayPal transactions are as secure as other PayPal transactions. Payment data is protected with encryption and stored in secure databases. PayPal does not share full credit card numbers with merchants.
Note: Fastlane by PayPal is not available through the PayPal Standard integration on the Jotform Enterprise platform.
Want to try it yourself? Let’s look at how to add Fastlane by PayPal to your forms in Jotform.
How to add Fastlane by PayPal to your forms
First, you’ll need to set up the integration between Jotform Enterprise and PayPal, if you haven’t already. In the Form Builder, search for PayPal in the Payments section of the Form Elements menu on the left side of the screen. Alternatively, you can find it in Jotform’s integration library.
Note: If PayPal isn’t enabled in the Payments section of the Form Builder, you may have to contact the admin for your Enterprise account. Jotform Enterprise admins can control who has access to payment integrations through the Admin Console. Check out our article on Enterprise Customizations and Widgets to learn more.
Next, open the integration’s payment settings. Click on PayPal in the Payments section, then select the dropdown option for Payment Settings. The Show Fastlane option will be on by default. If you’ve set up the integration previously, you may need to toggle on this option. (Note that enabling Fastlane will automatically disable the debit/credit card payment option — Fastlane acts as a replacement for this option.) Next, click Connect to link your PayPal merchant account.
After you connect your PayPal merchant account through a PayPal popup, the integration will display as Connected in the Payment Settings. Click Continue at the bottom of the screen, and you’ll be ready to collect payments with Fastlane by PayPal.
Customer experience
As mentioned above, Fastlane by PayPal stores a customer’s shipping and credit card information. Customers who’ve used Fastlane by PayPal before can speed through checkout using a confirmation code sent directly to their device. Here’s what the process looks like in Jotform for a user with an existing Fastlane profile.
First, Fastlane users will select Checkout from the list of PayPal options in your form.
Next, customers will be prompted to enter their Fastlane-affiliated email address. If a customer has a PayPal account but not a Fastlane profile, they can enter their PayPal-affiliated email address here to create a profile.
Once they enter their email, returning Fastlane users will receive a one-time confirmation code on their mobile device. In addition to this security measure, PayPal encrypts all personal information used to complete Fastlane purchases.
After customers enter the code, they can review and edit the contact and payment information supplied by Fastlane. To complete a purchase, Fastlane by PayPal shares a user’s email address, phone number, shipping and billing addresses, and credit card expiration date with the merchant. It does not share a user’s full credit card number or CVV code.
The customer then just needs to click Submit to complete their transaction.
But what if a customer hasn’t used PayPal or Fastlane before? In this case, the user will enter their payment information at checkout. They’ll have the option to activate Fastlane and save their information for future use. When the shopper completes this section of the form, they will receive a one-time confirmation code. Fastlane will then be in effect the next time they visit your form or online store.
Pro Tip
A Fastlane profile is different from a PayPal account. Fastlane provides a faster way to pay, which is supported by PayPal.
