    Standard Overtime

Standard Overtime is all time approved or directed to be worked before 7.30am or after 6.00pm on a normal workday between Monday to Friday, or on weekends and public holidays at the direction of the Area Commander.

Time worked inside bandwidth in excess of 35 hours is under Local Arrangement.

    Excess Travel

Excess travel is defined as directed travel done outside normal hours (which we have legal advice to define to mean before 7.30 and after 6pm Mon-Fri, all day Sat and Sun, and Public Holidays) in order to commence duty at a location that isn’t your normal headquarters.
Example; if your normal office is in the FCC , and then you do an AGM at a brigade location elsewhere on a Saturday - that is excess travel. If however you were travelling on the Saturday to go to your FCC to do emails - that is not excess travel as it your ordinary place of work. Mandatory elements to qualify: 1. Directed to go there, 2. Has to be “outside normal hours”. 3. You have to be going somewhere you don’t normally work.

    Local Arrangement (LA):

A flexible arrangement between an employee and their supervisor to meet personal and/or work needs. LA is not Time in Lieu because it does not involve the working of overtime.

LAs must be taken within the month approved (or by no later than the next month where prior authorisation is obtained). Usually in recognition of either additional time worked in a calendar month or as a result of an occasional need to re-arrange work hours.

LA is not interchangeable for Standard Overtime, and must not be used to bank overtime hours before 7.30am or after 6.00pm.

    Bandwidth:

Staff work a 35 hour week, worked any time from Monday to Sunday.  The normal working week shall be Monday to Friday. The bandwidth for working the 35 hours is between 0700 and 1900 unless agreed otherwise. Staff members shall attend their place of employment for sufficient hours to perform their duties.

    Overtime:

Overtime is all time approved or directed to be worked before 7.30am or after 6.00pm on a normal workday between Monday to Friday, or on weekends and public holidays at the direction of the Commissioner. Overtime means all time worked, whether before or after the ordinary daily hours of duty, at the direction of the Department Head, which, due to its character or special circumstances, cannot be performed during the staff members ordinary hours of duty.
