    Hi Three,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I'm an AI assistant. I'll do my best to help you until someone from the support team is available.

Regarding the issue with opening attached files in your PDF report emails, here are some key points to check:

    • Ensure the PDF attachment option is enabled in your email notification settings under the Settings tab in Form Builder.
    • If you have set a password for the PDF attachment, make sure you have the correct password to open the files.
    • Note that some email clients have attachment size limits (usually 5MB), which might affect file accessibility.
    • As an alternative, you can include a download link to the PDF in your email by adding the {pdf-link} tag in the email content. This allows recipients to download the PDF directly from Jotform.
    • If you encounter a 404 error when clicking the download link, check your Privacy settings to ensure login requirements are configured as needed.

Let me know if you need guidance on any of these steps.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

    Best regards,
    Jotform Support

    Hi Three_Feathers,

The PDF document only shows the details that were inputted by the user. However, the files won't attach to the PDF document of the form submission. If you'd like the recipients to view or download the uploaded attachments to the form, you can enable the Send File Upload as Attachments in the Email Notification. Doing this is easy, let's walk through this together:

    1. In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Settings.
    2. Click on Emails in the menu on the left side of the page.
    3. Click on Pencil icon of the Email Notification.
    4. Then go to the Advanced tab. Unable to open file attachments in PDF Screenshot 30
    5. Enable the Send File Upload as Attachment by toggling to ON.
    6. Finally, hit the Save button. Unable to open file attachments in PDF Screenshot 41

While the feature you're looking for isn't available at Jotform right now, we've gone ahead and escalated your request to our developers. Exactly when or if it's developed depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users also request it. If there are any updates, we’ll return to this thread and let you know.

Reach out to us if you need any more help.

    Hello,

The issue is once the submission is downloaded as a pdf document, the attach file field no longer has the link to be able to open the file.

I had this issue previously and there is a setting in the API which is missing regarding "attachments".

It was under our account settings - API - authorized apps.

    Hi Three_Feathers,

I have cloned your form and tested it out on my end and I didn't encounter any issues as shown in the screen recording.

Could you share with us a copy of the PDF file so that we can check it out? Since it is not possible to upload a file directly to this thread, you will have to upload it to your Google Drive or One Drive and share with us the Public Link.

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to help you with this.

    Hi Three_Feathers,

I checked my Authorized Apps and have the same permission as yours. See screenshot below:

The problem occurs when you download a report from PDF Editor. The links to open the attachments are not there when you open the downloaded file on your computer.

    Hi Three_Feathers,

Let me take a look at this for you. To do that, we’ll need your permission to access your account. Don’t worry, you can turn it off again once we’re done. Let me show you how to do it:

    1. In the top-right corner of your My Workspace page, click on your Avatar/Profile Image icon.

    2. In the Dropdown menu that opens, click on Settings.

    3. Next, in the panel on the left, click on the Security tab.

    4. If you haven’t opened your Security page in a while, it’ll ask you to verify. To do that, click on Send Verification Code.

    5. Then, enter the Verification Code you receive in your email.

    6. Finally, at the bottom of the page, toggle the Jotform Support Access to the On position.

This is already "On" in our account. You should have access. Thank you.

I did notice that the "Download Attachments" in the Authorized Apps under the API section was deleted. Not sure if this is important or not.

    Hi Three_Feathers,

When I checked and downloaded the PDF file, I was unable to replicate the issue you've experienced. See the screencast below for my results:

Unable to open file attachments in PDF Screenshot 50

As you can see on the screencast, I was able to view the attachment from the PDF after I downloaded it. If you want your recipients to access uploaded files, you can enable the Send File Uploads as Attachments option in your Email Notification settings and use the document. You can follow the guide provided by my colleague above.

As an alternative, you can include a download link to the PDF submission in your email by adding the {pdf-link} tag in the email content. This allows recipients to download the PDF directly from Jotform. Here's how:

    1. In Form Builder, click Settings from the top.

    2. Go to Emails from the left menu.

    3. Hover your mouse over the Notification , and then click Edit.

    4. In your Email Settings, click Form Fields.

    5. Scroll down at the bottom of the Sub-menu, then select PDF Link.

    6. Lastly, click Save at the bottom-right.

Now, regarding the Links/URLs in a downloaded PDF not working have several reasons. This issue is common in Adobe PDF, especially if the way the PDF was created, e.g., printing to PDF, can flatten the document and deactivate hyperlinks.

Ensure that the link is properly formatted. The link might not be correctly embedded within the PDF, or it might be split across multiple lines, causing the PDF reader to interpret it as separate, non-functioning links. Also, the URL might be incomplete, missing the necessary protocol like http or https, which is required for the link to function correctly.

Additionally, some PDFs have security settings that restrict certain actions, including clicking on links. If the PDF is a signed or secured document, it might require specific software like Adobe Acrobat Reader, or settings to access the links. Here's a guide I found online on How to fix Hyperlinks not working on PDF.

Regarding the API setting you mentioned, permission might affect the ability to access attachments via API, but it does not directly impact the PDF report generation or email attachments.

Reach out again if you have any other questions.

    Thank you Mark,

I see the "Download Attachment" is back in the API area.

Looks like the issue is solved for reports to Workhub now.

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the situation to me. It definitely helps clarify the downloads now.

Thank you again & Have a Super Day

    Donna
